Nachdem Kathrin nun das Buch durchgelesen hat und eine Rezension soweit abgearbeitet hat, darf ich mir das Buch “Warum tötest du, Zaid” von Jürgen Todenhöfer schnappen und habe die ersten paar Seiten gelesen. Noch bin ich mitten in der Geschichte vom jungen Iraker Zaid und wie ihn Herr Todenhöfer im Irak trifft und zum Interviewtwerden bewegt.
Der junge Zaid ist Widerstandskämpfer im Irak - und nicht Terrorist! Diese Unterscheidung ist eigentlich trivial, denn bei einer Besatzung wird es immer Freiheitskämpfer geben und daneben gibt es heutzutage politisch gesondert motivierte Terroristen, die im Falle des Iraks sogar zum größten Teil aus dem Ausland kommen. Es ist trotzdem beruhigend, dass der Author auch diesen Aspekt nicht unerwähnt lässt, da sich bei einigen Zeitgenossen der Eindruck erhärtet hat ((auf der Grundlage der gängigen Berichterstattung)), dass alle Gegner der US-Politik per se Terroristen sind.

Right-wingers in US, British and German politics have to deal with trouble ahead. While the ‘coalition of the willing’ was and seems to still be unable to win the hearts and minds of Arab people ((’how could they win their hearts and minds, when they leave their hearts at one place and their minds at another.. (i think this is a quote by Volker Pispers) )), it seems their main foe, Iran, is doing quite a good job. The Iran had captured 15 british soldiers, which it said were sailing in it’s own territories. Two days ago, in a surprising move, the Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had the 15 soldiers released. Now, it seems that Iran has reached the hearts and minds of many Westerners by doing that.
Let’s admit it. The USA is drifting and going mad while at it. One would think that in sight of the disaster that resulted from their attack on Iraq, they would pause and think for a second. But that’s not about to happen. While the world is puzzling over which of Iran or Syria would be the next target of another US-led invasion peace-bringing effort, the USA has started to openly attack Somalia in an effort to - as the US-Administration says - get rid of Al-Qaeda-Militants. ((it should be noted, that the ICU, whom the US accuses of harboring Terrorists at least doesn’t openly support Terrorism and denounces Ussama Bin-Laden’s Al-Qaeda and the Taliban, although Al-Qaeda Operative Al-Sawahiri was quoted as saying Somalia is the ‘next battleground’.))
For the US-Administration it seems to be clear, who is good and who is evil in this part of the world - or any other part really. More frightening is the aspect of non-negotiation that the US-Administration seems to have taken as a credo. Everyone opposing the US has to be a terrorist, who’s only goal is to destroy the “free world” and abandon freedom in general. And every single one of those has to die or he will pose a threat to the US.
Zu Anfang des Irakkriegs hat sich die US-Administration eine neue Art der medialen Kriegsführung ausgedacht, die darin besteht, Journalisten in die Armee einzubetten. Für die Reporter ist das die denkbar beste Möglichkeit zeitnah und vor allem relativ ungefährlich an brisante Informationen heranzukommen und sie dem gierigen Volk zuhause zu präsentieren.
Neben der Berichterstattung über den anhaltenden Krieg ist die Befragung einzelner Soldaten sicherlich ein Element des Medienwirkens gewesen, der Zuschauer angelockt hat - schließlich will sich jeder mit den Soldaten an der Front solidarisieren, wenn nicht gar identifizieren.
