Dynamic visualization of network-graphs II

In the first part i've introduced a way of aligning interconnected nodes in an optimal way. The methods used had some flaws that i discussed in the last article about dynamic network-graphs. In this article i would like to expand and improve the previous script.

For the past couple of weeks i've been trying to find out how to visualize my referrer statistics visually. It would be a network nodes, each connected to some of the other nodes, via edges. The requirement of the visualization-engine would be the following:

nodes must hold a specified distance to other nodes.
interconnected nodes should try to get as close together as possible (they should still abide by the first rule)
connections can be weighted, so that those with a higher weight would be preferred to be shorter
each node has a mass - A higher mass results in slower motion and more stability.
nodes can be fixed (not moving)
the space used by the entire network should be minimized

Heute kann ich mir nichts mehr reinziehen, deshalb ein paar Zeilen als Zusammenfassung, damit ich mich mit den Artikel auseinandersetze:

Vielleicht schaffe ich es sogar ein/zwei Strophen zum Gedicht hinzuzufügen: Das Folterminischterle.
Halbtransparenz im Web, muss schauen, ob das praktisch (=perfomant) ist.
Der Bundesdatenschützer hat endlich die Ekel-Gelb Seite eingetauscht und kann mit dem Deutschland-Design aufwarten. Inhalt muss noch gecheckt werden.. [thnx @ netzpolitik]
Vorschlag, wie SMIL-Funktionalität für die SVG-Unterstützung (für Animierbarkeit) von Firefox/Mozilla umgesetzt werden kann. SEHR INTERESSANT.
Vor kurzem habe ich im w-w-w-Forum nach einem Algorithmus gefragt, mit dem sich Netze dynamisch darstellen lassen, in der svg-developer-mailinglist kam dann der Verweis auf diese Seite.

Scalable Vector Graphics

SVG ist ein W3C-Standard [1], der die Implementation von Vektorgrafik mittels einer einfachen XML-Struktur in Internetdateien erleichtern soll. Die Sprache habe ich bereits an anderer Stelle für statische 2d-Zeichnungen benutzt. Auf islaminhannover.de [2] habe ich meinen ersten Online-Test eingebaut. Aber aufgepasst: Wenn man das SVG-Plugin von Adobe [3] nicht installiert hat, wird ein einfaches Bild angezeigt.
