Leider bin ich derzeit zu beschäftigt, um komplette Artikel selbst zu schreiben. Trotzdem möchte ich einige Artikelempfehlungen loswerden.

Inland:

Sich als Exotin in den jungengeprägten Klassen des Binger Stefan George Gymnasiums zu behaupten, das würde kein Zuckerschlecken. Das wusste die Familie. Doch das katholische Mädchengymnasium nebenan nahm das Mädchen mit Kopftuch und Spitzennoten nicht auf. “Inzwischen hat sich aber die zweite Wahl als Glücksgriff erwiesen.” Mit stänkernden Jungs hat Nada keine Probleme.

Irak:

Mit Erschrecken und Entsetzen lese ich in letzter Zeit Artikel über den Zustand im Irak. Sie beschreiben fast alle eine zerrüttete Gesellschaft, die vor allem von Rechtlosigkeit regiert wird. Der neuste Artikel behandelt das Thema Witwen. Dass die irakische Regierung innerhalb der “grünen Zone” als Antwort auf die Verbreitung des Bettel-Phänomens nur die Inhaftierung der Bettelnden hat, ist mehr als nur tragisch. Dass daneben die USA nicht zu stattlichen Reparationszahlungen zu zwingen ist, ist ein weiteres Unrecht, das man den Witwen antut.. Wer zählt schon..

• Iraq’s War Widows Face Dire Need With Little Aid

Among Iraqi women aged 15 to 80, 1 in 11 are estimated to be widows, though officials admit that figure is hardly more than a guess, given the continuing violence and the displacement of millions of people. A United Nations report estimated that during the height of sectarian violence here in 2006, 90 to 100 women were widowed each day.

In large cities like Baghdad, the presence of war widows is difficult to ignore. Cloaked in black abayas, they wade through columns of cars idling at security checkpoints, asking for money or food. They wait in line outside mosques for free blankets, or sift through mounds of garbage piled along the street. Some live with their children in public parks or inside gas station restrooms.

Officials at social service agencies tell of widows coerced into “temporary marriages” — relationships sanctioned by Shiite tradition, often based on sex, which can last from an hour to years — to get financial help from government, religious or tribal leaders.

Israel – Palästina:

Der Krieg im Gaza-Streifen geht weiter. Eine Zusammenfassung der Ereignisse hält der wöchentliche Bericht vom Palestinian Centre for Human Rights bereit. Wenn man schon dort ist, sollte man sich auch den zusammenfassenden Bericht für den Gaza-Krieg.

Ansonsten sind die Verhandlungen bislang ergebnislos.. Die Regierung im Gaza-Streifen bietet dagegen einen langfristigen (1,5 Jahre) Waffenstillstand gegen die Aufhebung der Belagerung. Die Freilassung des Soldaten Gilad Shalit stellen sie gegen die Freilassung einiger palästinensischer Häftlinge aus israelischen Gefängnissen in Aussicht. Interessant in diesem Zusammenhang ist die Haltung des israelischen Unterhändlers in Ägypten, der nun deswegen auch abgesetzt wurde:

Israel kritisiert nun Amnesty International, da dieses die Dinge beim Namen nennt:

In a report released today, Amnesty International listed the weapons used and called for an immediate arms embargo on Israel and all Palestinian armed groups. It called on the US president, Barack Obama, to suspend military aid to Israel.

Amnesty said Israel’s armed forces carried out “direct attacks on civilians and civilian objects in Gaza, and attacks which were disproportionate or indiscriminate”.

Israel scheint den demographischen Kampf nicht nur durch – teils grausame – Tötung, sondern auch durch vermehrte “richtige” Geburten gewinnen zu wollen. Tut mir leid für den Link auf eine nationalistische Seite..

Good news for Jewish demographics in Israel: the latest statistics released by the Central Bureau of Statistics shows a rising birth rate in the Jewish sector. However, Jewish family sizes are still smaller than those in the Arab population.

Guantanamo:

Hier ist besonders der neu entlassene Guantanamo-Häftling zu erwähnen, der nach eigenen Aussagen auch in Marokko gefoltert wurde. Es wird interessant sein zu erfahren, welche Versprechen er unterschreiben musste, um aus dem Gefängnis freizukommen.

Frauenbeauftragte: It’s not a real ministry, it’s just an office

Nawal Samarai war die erste (?) irakische Frauenbeauftragte – ein Job, der fast überall auf der Welt vor allem für den direkten Zweck der Anhebung der Frauenquote geschaffen wurde. In Irak ist man viel ehrlicher als in den meisten anderen Staaten und deswegen stieß Frau Samarai schnell an die Grenzen dessen, was sie mit diesem Amt tatsächlich anstellen konnte, wie ein Artikel in der LA Times beschreibt:

“I tried. I tried hard, but every time I asked for authority they’d tell me it’s not a real ministry, it’s just an office,” the former parliament member said Monday, four days after submitting her resignation as minister of state for women’s affairs.

US goes berzerk – New Iraq in Somalia

Let’s admit it. The USA is drifting and going mad while at it. One would think that in sight of the disaster that resulted from their attack on Iraq, they would pause and think for a second. But that’s not about to happen. While the world is puzzling over which of Iran or Syria would be the next target of another US-led invasion peace-bringing effort, the USA has started to openly attack Somalia in an effort to – as the US-Administration says – get rid of Al-Qaeda-Militants. ((it should be noted, that the ICU, whom the US accuses of harboring Terrorists at least doesn’t openly support Terrorism and denounces Ussama Bin-Laden’s Al-Qaeda and the Taliban, although Al-Qaeda Operative Al-Sawahiri was quoted as saying Somalia is the ‘next battleground’.))

For the US-Administration it seems to be clear, who is good and who is evil in this part of the world – or any other part really. More frightening is the aspect of non-negotiation that the US-Administration seems to have taken as a credo. Everyone opposing the US has to be a terrorist, who’s only goal is to destroy the “free world” and abandon freedom in general. And every single one of those has to die or he will pose a threat to the US.
